Mahayuti’s big win in Maharashtra has brought up the tally of the number of states now ruled by BJP-led alliances. The saffron alliance turned heads with its landslide victory in Maharashtra but BJP-led NDA fell short in Jharkhand.

Leaving its Opposition, Maha Vikas Aghadi, way behind, the BJP-led Mahayuti is set to create history and mark its best performance in Maharashtra. Celebrations have commenced among party lines as the results make it clear that Mahayuti is here to stay.

STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD

Mahayuti, the alliance made of BJP, Shiv Sena (Shinde) and NCP (AP), has won 235 out of 288 Assembly seats in Maharashtra while MVA could only win 49 seats.

BJP has always contested elections in Maharashtra as part of an alliance. Along its way, the party has gained some or lost some. However, the 2024 elections proved to be the most valuable for the party.

The pre-2020 period saw the BJP’s footprint disappearing across the country with the party suffering monumental losses in states like Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. But come 2020, BJP-led alliances began to hold their ground back in several states.

Now, six states are under the BJP or National Democratic Alliance while two are with the INDIA bloc.

Arunachal Pradesh

The 2024 Arunachal Pradesh Assembly elections resulted in a significant victory for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The party secured 46 out of the 60 seats in the legislative assembly.

Sikkim

The Sikkim Krantikari Morcha managed to retain power in the state in the 2024 Assembly elections. Although it broke away from the BJP-led NDA alliance in 2019, SKM’s chief Prem Singh Tamang has maintained that his party is “still a part of the NDA alliance”.

Arunachal Pradesh

In the 2024 Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), led by N. Chandrababu Naidu, registered a decisive victory, securing a majority in the 175-seat assembly. TDP is part of the NDA.

Odisha

BJP scripted history by winning the Odisha Assembly elections in 2024 by breaking the Biju Janata Dal’s juggernaut. The party won 78 out of the 147 assembly seats.

Haryana

The 2024 Haryana Assembly election results have led to a historic victory for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), marking their third consecutive term in power. The party secured 48 out of 90 assembly seats.

Jammu and Kashmir

In the J&K assembly elections of 2024, the National Conferance-Congress combine won 48 seats (42 of NC and six of Congress) in the 90-member J&K assembly. Following the victory, the NC staked claim to form the government under Omar’s leadership.

Jharkhand

The INDI alliance, consisting of JMM, Congress and RJD, has won Jharkhand by bagging 56 of 81 seats. JMM alone has won 34 of these seats.
