India’s National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) is working on a new educational module about “Operation Sindoor” for senior students, according to media reports.

The development comes ahead of a scheduled discussion about the military operation in the ongoing monsoon session of the parliament. The draft of the module is almost ready and should be out soon.

This module isn’t part of regular textbooks.

Separate case study

The curriculum is a separate case study about India’s military response to a deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.

Operation Sindoor” refers to the precise airstrike India conducted on May 7 this year, targeting terrorist bases across the Line of Control (LoC).

The goal is to teach students how countries handle terror threats and how defence, diplomacy, and teamwork between government departments ensure national security.

Right now, the module is designed for higher secondary students, but NCERT might create a version for middle schoolers later.

“Operation Sindoor” was India’s response to a terror attack in Pahalgam on April 27, which killed 26 Hindu civilians. On May 7, Indian forces launched targeted strikes on terror sites in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and Pakistan.

The operation was widely appreciated for its quick planning and smooth coordination between the military and the government.

The NCERT module will explain the mission clearly, covering the armed forces’ role, how such counter-terror decisions are made, and their impact on diplomacy and regional peace.

This project aligns with NCERT’s efforts under the “National Curriculum Framework 2023 (NCF 2023)” and the “National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020)”.

NCERT has already rolled out new textbooks for Classes 6 and 8 in subjects like English, Social Science, Sanskrit, and a vocational book called “Kaushal Bodh”.

These focus on hands-on learning, Indian culture, and modern challenges. The “Operation Sindoor” module continues this approach, bringing real-world events into classrooms to keep students informed and encourage critical thinking.
