Prime Minister Narendra Modi will today raise the issue of incursions by China’s People Liberation Army with Chinese President Xi Jinping who is on a three-day bilateral visit to India.
“Yesterday, these issues were already raised at the highest level between PM Modi and President Xi. All issues of substance will also be raised today including recent issues. We will tell you the outcome once those discussions are done,” Ministry of External Affairs Spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said.
At least 1,000 Chinese army troops have entered Indian territory since early Wednesday morning forcing India’s National Security Advisor Ajit Doval to personally monitor developments along that border.
India rushed troops to the area and both sides were indulging in repeated banner drill, sources told PTI.
A Brigadier-level flag meeting, second within a week, was held in Chushul, where the issue of intrusion of Chinese troops in Chumar and civilian intrusion in the Demchok area was discussed, sources said.
Chumar, located more than 300 kms Northeast of Leh and bordering Himachal Pradesh, has been a flash point between the two sides with Chinese making several attempts to end India’s dominance in the area.
Sources said that vehicular movement on Chinese side was noticed and it was believed that Chinese PLA was indulging in face off tactics only to divert attention of India about construction work being undertaken on their side.
Under the agreement between the two sides, any country indulging in defence construction has to inform the other sides.
