The MP surrendered before a court in connection with a 2005 case where he, his brother and other leaders are accused of threatening a district collector.

MIM's Asaduddin Owaisi surrenders, seeks bail in 2005 case

All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen MP Asaduddin Owaisi today surrendered before a court in Andhra Pradesh in connection with a 2005 case in which he is accused of threatening a district collector along with his brother Akbaruddin.

Asaduddin, who is accused number 1 in the case, filed a ‘recall petition’ in the court seeking cancellation of a non-bailable warrant issued against him.

However, the court dismissed his petition and remanded him in judicial custody till 2 February, a senior police officer said.

Shortly after that the MP applied for bail in the case, CNN-IBN reported.

Owaisi, his brother and other MIM MLAs had reportedly obstructed a road widening project in 2005 in the Medak district of the state and had threatened the local district collector over the removal of a small shrine for the project.

Owaisi and his brother had been booked under Sections 147 (punishment for rioting) 153 A (promoting enmity between groups), 353 (assault on public servant obstruc-ting him of discharging duties), 290 (punishment for public nuisance), 295 (deliberate acts to outrage religious feelings) and 506 (criminal intimidation).

The brothers had surrendered before the court earlier in 2009 and had been released on bail. Akbaruddin Owaisi is currently in judicial custody in connection with making an inflammatory speech at a set of public speeches in Andhra Pradesh.

Earlier, Akbaruddin Owaisi, who is under judicial custody in connection with an alleged hate speech, was produced before the court in Sangareddy town on January 17 by the Patancheru Police for execution of the non-bailable warrant issued in the case

A non-bailable warrant (NBW) was issued against the Owaisis as they did not turn up in court in connection with the case registered in 2005.
