Masik Shivaratri 2022: Here's the date, puja vidhi, shubh muhurat, and significance

Masik Shivratri is an auspicious Hindu festival that is solely dedicated to Lord Shiva. Masik in Hindi means monthly and Shivratri means Lord Shiva’s night. This festival holds great significance for the Hindus, especially among Lord Shiva’s devotees. According to the Hindu calendar, Masik Shivratri is observed on the Chaturdashi Tithi (fourteenth day) of every month during Krishna Paksha (waxing phase of the moon). Every month Masik Shivaratri is observed, however, Maha Shivaratri occurs only once a year. So, those who start observing a fast from Maha Shivaratri continue their fast every month for the whole year. As per belief, those who fast on Masik Shivaratri are blessed and guided in all their endeavours. Date and shubh muhurat: This month’s Masik Shivratri will be observed on 25 August 2022. According to Drikpanchang, the Bhadrapada, Krishna Chaturdashi begins on 25 August at 10:37 am and ends on 26 August at 12:23 pm. Puja vidhi: Most of the devotees of Lord Shiva observe the Shivaratri fast. Unmarried women fast on the day in hope of an early marriage. Married women observe the fast to maintain peace and harmony in their married life. They also pray for the long lives of their husbands. On Masik Shivaratri, devotees wake up early in the morning, visit a temple, light a lamp, and offer fresh fruits, flowers as well as sweets to Lord Shiva. Those observing a fast can break it only in the evening after completing the puja. Devotees break their fast by having fruits, dry fruits, and other milk products. Devotees chant Om Namah Shivaye or Mahamrityunjay mantra get rid of all their health-related problems. Significance: Masik Shivratri is of great significance to the Hindu community. They consider it to be an auspicious day/time to worship Lord Shiva and seek his blessings. Devotees believe that fasting on this day purifies their soul and will help them achieve moksha (salvation) in life.
