Maharashtra election results: In Mahayuti landslide, Modi scores at 74% strike rate

Mahayuti is on its path to achieving an unprecedented victory in Maharashtra. In the state’s 288 assembly seats, the BJP-Shiv Sena-NCP alliance is ahead in 229 with the saffron party contributing the majority of share to this number at 134.

Leaving its Opposition, Maha Vikas Aghadi, way behind, the BJP-led Mahayuti is set to create history and mark its best performance in Maharashtra. Celebrations have commenced among party lines as the results make it clear that Mahayuti is here to stay.

To add cherry on the top, the key candidates fielded by the alliance have also outperformed this election by winning or leading their respective constituencies by wide margins. Many factors played into Mahayuti’s win among which seat sharing also contributed significantly. BJP contested 149 seats, Shiv Sena (Shinde) got 81 and NCP (AP) fought in 59 seats.

PM Modi’s strike rate

After Lok Sabha elections, PM Modi’s overall strike rate dipped to 56 per cent but he made up for it in the Maharashtra assembly elections.

Wherever PM Modi went to campaign, victory followed. BJP contested in 35 seats where PM Modi held speeches. The party won in 26 of those seats which adds up to a strike rate of over 74 per cent.

Here’s a breakdown of the seats where PM Modi held campaigns:

• Dhule: Contested 2 seats, won both

• Nashik: Contested 3 seats, won all

• Chhatrapati Sabhajinagar: Contested 8 seats, won 2

• Akola: Contested 2 seats, won 1

• Chandrapur: Contested 1 seat, won 1

• Solapur: Contested 2 seats, won both

• Pune: Contested 1 seat, won 1

• Mumbai: Contested 15 seats, won 13

• Thane: Contested 1 seat, won 1

The prime minister’s remarkable strike rate in the state is testimony to BJP’s improved numbers this year.

BJP’s ‘Maha’ strike rate

Meanwhile, the saffron party’s strike rate has reached a whopping 89 per cent in Maharashtra.

It is important to note that this is BJP’s best-ever performance in the state as compared to 2014 when the party won 122 seats.
