Kolkata: A kidnapping and murder case of a 22-year-old engineering student in Kolkata has created terror among residents in the area. The police on Sunday picked up one of his classmate in connection to the murder, reports said. Syed Salauddin, a 22-year-old student of a private engineering college in Durgapur was found with his throat slit Ilambazar area after being missing for over a day in West Bengal’s Birbhum district. As per cops, the father of the deceased who owns a Stone crushing unit in the area had also received a ransom call the same day. The caller allegedly asked for Rs 30 Lakh. “Salauddin had gone out with his friend on September 10. There are reports that his father received a phone call yesterday afternoon, and a ransom of Rs 30 lakh was demanded from him,” a senior police officer said. A friend of the deceased has been arrested in connection with the case. “We have detained a friend of the deceased who was reportedly with him. We are trying to ascertain the motive behind the murder and trace the alleged caller," officer added. To a question, the officer said that the district police is trying to find out whether the ransom after the kidnap was the motive behind the murder.
