As unfortunate as it is, it’s not uncommon for women travelling alone to face heckling and lewd comments from men in India. But a Delhi woman decided to take a stand against it by taking a photograph of the offender, in order to bring the incident and the perpetrator in the public eye. And although a few weeks back, there was the case of Delhi police allegedly refusing to book an eve teaser , which was widely shared on Facebook, this woman decide to both lodge a complaint and use social media to spread the word. But as Kaur puts it, it wasn’t just his obscene comments but also his sheer audacity and the inaction of the people around her that spurred her to share her story and shame the offender. “When I told him that im clicking his picture and i’m going to file a complaint against him, he responded by posing for the picture and said- ‘Jo kar sakti hai kar le. Complaint karke dikha, fir dekhiyo kya karta hun main’ (Do whatever you want, complain against me and then wait and watch what I will do),” she writes. She also added that while she was having this altercation with the offender during a red light at a traffic signal at Tilak Nagar, there were around 20 onlookers who refused to intervene. Kaur has lodged a police complaint against the accused along with his photograph and bike number. However, there has been no reports of his arrest so far. The offender as riding a silver Royal Enfield with the number DL 4S CE 3623. This isn’t the first eve-teasing incident that has been brought to light on social media. Complaints against sexual harassment being reported on social media are on the rise and even gaining the due notice from the authorities. Last week, a woman in Mumbai tweeted out a photograph of a man who allegedly masturbated at her in Colaba . her complaint was answered by the Maharashtra chief minister’s office and the accused was arrested days later. Earlier, IAS officer Riju Bafna shared her story about about facing sexism and sexual harassment at work on Facebook as well. Read the full post here
