Kolkata: Jeeja Ghosh, the 42-year-old teacher teacher with cerebral palsy, who was deplaned from a SpiceJet flight in February this year called for a press conference today, using the incident to galvanise support for increased sensitivity in such matters.

Since then, SpiceJet, instead of issuing an apology, has sent out a letter saying Ghosh was asked to get off the plane as the pilot saw blood on Ghosh’s mouth, a claim she refutes, _Firstpos_t’s Sandip Roy reported from Kolkata. Ghosh has also filed a law suit in the consumer court.

At the conference, Ghosh and other disability advocates told reporters that while they have filed a lawsuit in the SC against the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), they are also working with the body to better implement the laws in place dating back to 1995.

They said they have also asked the DGCA to appoint an ombudsman who would wield the power to investigate and take action, should there be violation of these laws.
