J&K: 2 terrorists killed in encounter near LoC in Baramulla; Anantnag ops enter day 4

Two terrorists have been neutralised by security forces in an encounter near line of control (LoC) in Uri sector in the Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday.

The counter-terror operation was underway at the time of filing this report.

The identities and group affiliation of the slain terrorists are yet to be ascertained, police said.

The fresh encounter in Baramulla comes at a time when an operation is underway in Anantnag district to neutralise terrorists who have taken positions in the forest area in a hilly terrain. The gunfight and operation to flush put the ultras entered its fourth day on Saturday.

On Friday, a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terror module was unearthed in Baramulla district with the arrest of two terror associates - Zaid Hassan Malla, a resident of Mir Sahib Baramulla, and Mohammad Arif Channa, from Stadium Colony Baramulla.

Arms and ammunition were also recovered from the arrested duo.

“They were involved in cross-border smuggling of arms and ammunition at the behest of Pakistan-based terror handlers and its further distribution to LeT terrorists for carrying out terror activities," the spokesperson said.

In Anantnag, security forces have deployed drones to pinpoint the hideouts of terrorists.

Additional Director General of Police (Kashmir) Vijay Kumar said the operation was launched based on specific input and the two to three trapped terrorists will be neutralised.

One more soldier succumbed to injuries on Friday taking the toll to four. Colonel Manpreet Singh, the commanding officer of 19 Rashtriya Rifles, Major Aashish Dhonchak, from the same battalion, and DSP Humayun Muzamil Bhat were killed on Wednesday.
