India-Pakistan Ceasefire LIVE: PM Modi outlines new anti-terror doctrine, says no tolerance for nuclear blackmail; Foreign Secretary to brief parliamentary panel on Pakistan

The ceasefire between India and Pakistan, arrived after the Pakistan Army’s DGMO reached out to his Indian counterpart last week seeking de-escalation, is largely holding as of Monday noon as they were again scheduled for talks. The Line of Control (LoC) and border areas in Jammu and Kashmir have remained "largely peaceful," according to Indian Army sources, marking the first calm night following a week of missile and drone strikes. India has said, however, that its forces remain on high alert, and western border states continue to monitor the situation closely. Tensions escalated dramatically after Pakistan-backed terrorists killed 26 people in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam in April, prompting India to launch Operation Sindoor. The Indian forces targeted nine locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, reportedly killing over 100 militants and inflicting significant damage on military infrastructure. Pakistan responded with its own missile and drone attacks, leading to severe and punitive strikes by the Indian forces, compelling the Pakistan Army to seek de-escalation. And a ceasefire understanding was reached on May 10. The ceasefire was announced late Saturday, with both nations agreeing to halt all military actions on land, air, and sea effective immediately. However, within hours, Pakistan violated the truce, prompting India to issue a stern warning that further breaches would be met with stronger response. No major incidents have been reported since then. Communication hotlines between military leaders have been reactivated to manage any future incidents. While the ceasefire has brought a temporary calm, analysts caution that this is not a guarantee of long-term peace. Mutual distrust remains high, and both sides have claimed victory in the recent conflict — India offered evidence, Pakistan referred to social media posts as proof. International community is keeping an eye on the tense calm as they fear a broader crisis may erupt. India has made it clear that the durability of the ceasefire will depend on Pakistan’s actions as it continues to exercise restraint and measured in its response.

Man leading funeral of terrorists killed in Op Sindoor is on US wanted list

In trying to portray a globally sanctioned terrorist as a “common man”, Pakistan was exposed when its top official publically outed crucial details about Hafiz Abdul Rauf, including his national identity number which matched details in the database of the US sanction list of terrorists.

Pakistan’s Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry in a press conference made an attempt to portray Rauf as a common man with “three daughters, son” who had led the prayers of terrorists killed at the Lashkar-e-Taiba headquarter in Mudrike, Pakistan’s Punjab, during Operation Sindoor.

During the presentation, Chaudhry gave his Computerized National Identity Card number 35202-5400413-9 besides giving his date of birth March 25, 1973 and that he was a resident of Lahore.

India-Pakistan Ceasefire LIVE News: Shashi Tharoor slams Donald Trump's statement on India-Pakistan ceasefire

In a post on social media platform X, Shashi Tharoor said, “Mr Trump’s post is disappointing for India in four important ways: First, it implies a false equivalence between the victim and the perpetrator, and seemingly overlooks the US’ own past unwavering stance against Pakistan’s well-documented links to cross-border terrorism. Second, it offers Pakistan a negotiating framework which it certainly has not earned. India will never negotiate with a terrorist gun pointed at its head. Third, it “internationalises” the Kashmir dispute, an obvious objective of the terrorists. India rejects the idea of a dispute and sees the problem as an internal affair of India’s. India has never requested, not is likely to seek, any foreign country’s mediation over its problems with Pakistan. And fourth, it “re-hyphenates” India and Pakistan in the global imagination. For decades now, world leaders had been encouraged not to club their visits to India with visits to Pakistan, and starting with President Clinton in 2000, no US President had done so. This is a major backward step.”

India-Pakistan Ceasefire LIVE: Here are the highlights from PM Modi's address to the nation

Highlights of PM’s speech in English:

  • PM dedicates the success of Operation Sindoor to India’s Nari Shakti. This is noteworthy because several women and children saw family members being butchered in the most cold-blooded manner by the terrorists.
  • PM publicly calls out the entire terror apparatus of Pakistan, calls Bahawalpur and Muridke as Universities of terror.
  • PM says that Pakistan tried to remove the Sindoor of our women, we uprooted their universities of terror itself.
  • PM confirms that Indian Armed Forces targeted over 100 terrorists. Clearly, Pakistan has been repaid in a language that they understand.
  • PM exposes the hollowness of the Pakistani Army, which is nothing compared to the Indian Armed Forces.
  • PM does not rule out further action on Pakistani sponsored terror, makes it clear that even now, every inch of land in which terror is encouraged by Pakistan is within the reach of our Armed Forces.
  • PM makes it clear that it was Pakistan than came begging for peace! It was Pakistan which was bearing the brunt of the Indian onslaught, forcing their DGMO to reach out to their counterpart in India.
  • PM clearly states Operation Sindoor is not over! India will give back to terror and their backers in a language they understand.
  • PM clearly states the new normal now- India will answer back, nuclear blackmail won’t work, no difference between terrorists and those who patronise them whoever they, wherever they are.

India-Pakistan Ceasefire LIVE: What are Indian Air Defence's "soft kill" and "hard kill" abilities?

India’s air defence network employs a combination of “soft kill” and “hard kill” strategies to counter a wide spectrum of aerial threats, ranging from drones to missiles and aircraft. These approaches are integrated into a multi-layered defence system, leveraging both indigenous and imported technologies.

Soft kill systems aim to neutralize threats without physically destroying them, primarily by disrupting their guidance, control, or communications. Key features include Electronic Warfare (EW). This refers to jamming enemy communications, navigation, and radar systems to confuse or misdirect incoming threats. This includes radio frequency (RF) jamming, Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) jamming, and GPS spoofing, which are particularly effective against drones and precision-guided munitions.

Soft kill methods are cost-effective, can be used repeatedly, and are less likely to cause collateral damage. However, they may face challenges in reliably confirming the neutralisation (“kill assessment”) of the threat.

Hard kill systems physically destroy or intercept incoming threats using kinetic means. Key components include:

    • Surface-to-Air Missiles (SAMs): Systems like the S-400, Akash, and Igla-S are used to intercept and destroy enemy aircraft, drones, and missiles at various ranges.
    • Anti-Aircraft Guns: Low-level air defence (LLAD) guns and older systems like Pechora and Osa-AK provide point defence against low-flying threats.
    • Directed Energy Weapons: High-energy lasers, as part of the D4 system, can physically destroy drones and other small aerial threats when electronic disruption is insufficient.

Hard kill methods are decisive and provide clear confirmation of threat neutralization but are generally more expensive.

In a comprehensive briefing, India’s Director Generals of Military Operations (DGMOs) detailed how the country’s advanced, multi-layered air defence system successfully countered Pakistan’s aerial attacks after Operation Sindoor. This came as India-Pakistan ceasefire remained intact without a major incident on the third day of its implementation.

India-Pakistan Ceasefire LIVE: 'Unwavering budgetary and policy support by Govt of India' over the years key in success of air defence systems recently

Air Marshal Bharti, DGAO, pointed out that India’s robust Air Defence system comprises a large variety of AD sensors, and Weapon Systems- from point defence weapons like the LLAD guns, shoulder-fired MANPADS and short-range SAMS, to area defence weapons like the AD fighter ac, and longer range SAMs.

Additionally, the numerous waves of drones and UCAVs employed by Pakistan were also thwarted by the indigenously developed soft and hard-kill Counter-UAS systems and the well-trained Indian AD personnel. All this was brought together as an efficient and effective Air Defence environment, by the Integrated Air Command & Control System (IACCS) of the lAF, which accords us Net-Centric Op capability.

“I would like to also mention that, putting together and operationalisation of this potent AD environment has been possible over the last decade, due to unwavering budgetary and policy support provided by the Gol, in acquiring state-of-the art equipment and weapon systems,” he said.

India-Pakistan Ceasefire LIVE: Turkish YIHA Kamikaze drones used by Pakistan shot down by India, message clear to the world

The Director General of Air Operations, Air Marshal AK Bharti, in a press briefing on Monday confirmed that India had thwarted attacks by several Pakistani air assets, including the Turkish-made YIHA Kamikaze drones.

India-Pakistan Ceasefire LIVE Updates: While both India and Pakistan have agreed to a truce in their escalating tensions, the commitment to the pause from Islamabad’s end has been fragile.

The late-night turbulence from Srinagar to Kutch prompted India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri to conduct an emergency press briefing. He condemned what he called “a breach of the understanding arrived at earlier today”.

“The Armed Forces are giving an adequate and appropriate response to these violations and we take very, very serious note of these violations. We call upon Pakistan to take appropriate steps to address these violations and deal with the situation with seriousness and responsibility," he said.

Blasts and flashes of light were reported in the night sky by residents of Srinagar and the Jammu and Kashmir CM, Omar Abdullah. The same situation also persisted in other parts of Kashmir and Gujarat.

In response to India’s accusations, Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry issued a statement insisting that its forces were “handling the situation with responsibility and restraint” and reaffirmed its commitment to the ceasefire.
