IIT Hyderabad student dies by suicide, 2nd incident since 31 August

Hyderabad: A 23-year-old IITian from Hyderabad campus allegedly died by suicide after jumping of the terrace of the Paying Guest facility he was living, officials said on Wednesday.

The death comes nine days after the suspected suicide of a second-year MTech student in the institute campus.

The deceased was identified as Megh Kapoor, a native of Rajasthan who had been staying at the lodge in Sangareddy town near IIT-Hyderabad, police said.

As per the cops, the incident occurred early morning when they received a PCR call informing about the dead body lying outside the PG facility.

It seemed that the deceased in the early hours on Wednesday went to the terrace of the lodge where he has been staying temporarily, and jumped to death He had completed BTech at the institute.

The reason for his extreme step was not known immediately. Police are awaiting the arrival of his parents.

Police said a case under Section 174 CrPC (suspicious death) has been registered following a complaint registered by the lodge staff.

Police had said on August 31, a 25-year-old MTech student allegedly ended his life by hanging himself in his room in the institute. “Detailed investigation is being done in both the cases,” a police official told PTI.
