According to a report on  The  New Indian Express , the students and the TV channel lodged complaints against each other which led the police to book them in turn. The TV channel allegedly filmed the girls leaving a pub after their farewell party and then distorted the footage to make them look like drunk trouble-makers.

The New Indian Express quotes:

While the police registered cases on the TV channel staff for assault or criminal force on a woman with intent to outrage her modesty, police booked Nalsar University student for criminal intimidation by an anonymous communication.

Police said that while the students alleged that the TV 5 network staff beat them up when they went to talk to a senior journalist in the channel, the channel alleged that the students had tried to intimidate them over anonymous calls.

Firstpost had reported how the local TV channels line the entrances to pubs in Hyderabad to film youngsters leaving after parties. They consequently edit the footage to their liking and broadcast them with morality spin to the story. TV 5 also had blurred pictures of the fully clothed girls to suggest that they were drunk and not properly clothed.
