Gurgaon gang-rape: Police arrest 5 accused; 2 absconding

Police have arrested five of the seven accused in the Gurgaon gang-rape case. According to them, Ankit, Naveen, Sunil, Rupesh and Mohit are friends and hail from a village in Rohtak, Haryana district. Maheshwar Dayal, DCP (crime), Gurgaon, said that on the day of crime, the five along with another friend, Vinod, had come to meet Amarjeet who used to work in a factory in Gurgaon. After spending some time at Amarjeet’s rented flat in Gurgaon’s Ranjeet Nagar area, all seven reached Sahara Mall at 10.30 pm. Inside the mall, they consumed liquor at one of the pubs where they noticed the girl. They waited outside and when, around 2.30 am, the girl hired a cab from outside Sahara Mall to Delhi, they forced the cab to stop and pulled the girl in a white Alto car. They drove her to Amarjeet’s flat where they took turns to rape her. Around 4.30 am they left her near Chhatarpur metro station. Police have recovered the white Alto car bearing Haryana registration number. The car belongs to one Jasbeer. “He works with Border Road Organisation. The accused came to meet Amarjeet in Jasbeer’s vehicle. But he has no role in this crime,’ said Dayal. Amarjeet and Vinod are absconding. None of the accused was known to the victim, the police said.
