Former Chief Minister of Jharkhand Shibu Soren passed away on Monday. His son and the current chief minister of the state, Hemant Soren, confirmed the news.
Shibu Soren was a prominent tribal leader and the founder of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM).
He served as the CM of Jharkhand in 2005 for just 10 days. He was re-elected in 2008 and stayed in power till 2010.
Soren was admitted to the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in the last week of June. He was suffering from kidney-related issues. “Respected Dishom Guruji has left us all. Today, I feel completely empty,” Jharkhand chief minister Hemant Soren said in a post on X.
The 81-year-old JMM Supremo was on a ventilator support and was receiving treatment for over a month. He has been away from active politics for years after suffering from health-related issues.
Soren led the JMM for nearly four decades after taking over its reins in 1987. He was also at the forefront of the movement that demanded a separate Jharkhand state.
While he served as the CM of Jharkhand three times, he was never able to complete a full five-year term.
