According to reports, the aim is to avoid confusion caused by multiple versions of the Bill and to provide one updated draft with all changes included for the House to consider.
The new Bill is expected to modernise the country’s direct tax rules, make procedures simpler and deal with several long-standing challenges in tax management.
INDIA bloc’s march to Election Commission over SIR
The Opposition-led INDIA bloc will hold a march to the Election Commission of India office today to oppose the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in Bihar.
The march was earlier set for August 8 but was pushed back following the death of former Jharkhand chief minister Shibu Soren.
On Thursday night, Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi met several INDIA bloc leaders over dinner and gave a presentation on what he called the BJP’s “vote theft” in Karnataka with the help of the Election Commission.
On Friday, Rahul Gandhi also led a march to the Karnataka Election Commission Office in Bengaluru over what he alleges is voter list manipulation.
Tesla to open new showroom in Delhi
Tesla, the US electric vehicle company, will open its second showroom in India today in Delhi.
This comes after the launch of the company’s first outlet in Mumbai on July 15.
The new showroom will be located at Worldmark, Aerocity, near the New Delhi International Airport.
Once open, it will allow Tesla to cater to customers in Delhi and the wider national capital region.
Extinction Rebellion protest in Norway
From today until August 22, Extinction Rebellion Norway will bring together hundreds of activists from across Europe, claiming that Norway’s fossil fuel industry is ‘killing’ them.
“Knowing the catastrophic consequences, our politicians continue without any emergency plan. We will make it impossible to avoid our cry for help,” the group’s website states.
The first phase of their campaign will run from August 11 to 13 in Arendal, during Norway’s largest political festival, Arendalsuka.
There is a possibility that activist Greta Thunberg may join the protest. However, Firstpost could not verify the authenticity of the information.
