Former cop's son arrested for hit-and-run, abusing police

The son of a Punjab top cop has been arrested for driving in an intoxicated state and knocking down a cyclist as well as for deterring the police from doing their duty.

41-year-old Paramdeep Paramjit Sandhu,  son of a former Punjab Inspector General of Police rammed the Ford Endeavour he was driving into a cyclist, Ramprakash Singh. Singh was seriously injured but is out of danger now.

Instead of stopping and helping the victim, Sandhu reversed the vehicle and ran away. However, a motorist helped the victim and also chased Sandhu and forced him to slow down at a police checkpoint and dragged him out of his vehicle.

The Versova police told CNN-IBN that Sandhu flaunted his father’s status as an inspector-general in Punjab and allegedly manhandled cops who tried to take him to the police station.

His father, Parmajit Singh Sandhu, former Punjab IG, reportedly called the Versova police and asked them to go soft on his son.

Sandhu also reportedly abused doctors who tried to conduct a blood-alcohol test.

Police, although is unwilling to go on record against Sandhu, have slapped  section 279 (rash and negligent driving), 337 (causing hurt) and 353 (assault to deter public servants from discharging their duty) along with drunk driving charges on him.
