 "‘Focused on jacuzzi…:’ PM Modi launches fiery attack on Kejriwal, Rahul Gandhi in Lok Sabha")
Prime Minister Narendra Modi Tuesday tore into opposition parties while speaking at the Lower House of Parliament. Replying to the Motion of Thanks to the President’s address in Lok Sabha, Prime Minister Modi said that some people were “focussed on jacuzzi, stylish showers”, in a veiled dig at Aam Aadmi Party leader and former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal.
The PM added that the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government at the Centre didn’t believe in giving false slogans “but true development to the people”.
The PM’s fiery speech in Parliament came just a day ahead of the Assembly polls in Delhi, where both BJP and AAP are hoping to win most of the 70 seats up for grabs.
‘Gave 40 million houses to poor’
Addressing the Parliament, the PM said that his government had built over 4 crore (40 million houses) and 12 crore (120 million) toilets over the past 10 years.
“The women in the past suffered a lot due to the lack of a toilet system…Those who have these facilities cannot understand the problems of those who are suffering…We have given more than 12 crore toilets,” the PM said.
PM’s Sheesh Mahal jibe
The PM further criticised the AAP over the Sheesh Mahal row, claiming his schemes saved a lot of taxpayers’ money but they didn’t use it to build ‘Sheesh Mahal’, referring to the controversy surrounding alleged corruption in the renovation of the Delhi CM’s official residence.
“The pain of the poor, the troubles of the common man, the dreams of the middle class cannot be understood just like that, it requires passion. I am sorry to say that some people just don’t have it,” the PM added.
PM’s scathing attack on Rahul Gandhi
The PM in his address also targeted the Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, accusing the Congress leader of staging photo-ops in the huts of the poor.
“…Those who have photo sessions in the huts of the poor, for their own entertainment, will find the mention of the poor in Parliament boring,” said the BJP leader.
