A fire broke out at Rajiv Gandhi Government Hospital in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on Wednesday. Several fire tenders rushed to the spot and firemen are working to douse the blaze. The fire was reported in one of the older buildings of the hospital. All the patients have been evacuated safely, said Principal Secretary-Health, Dr J Radhakrishnan. Visuals showed plumes of smoke rising into the sky.
“The fire broke out in one of the older buildings, the new three blocks are safe from fire. So far no report of casualties or injuries have been reported,” Dr Radhakrishnan told news agency ANI. There was chaos outside the government hospital. The cause of fire is not yet known but as per reports by local media, early speculations suggest that the fire started from a store room at the third block of the hospital, where cylinders have been kept.
