Two people were injured at Raha in Assam’s Nagaon district as a moderate earthquake measuring 5.4 with its epicentre at Tezpur shook the state and parts of West Bengal including Kolkata at 6.11pm today.

As per TV reports, the injury happened due to house collapse.

People scrambled out of their offices and chaotic traffic scenes were witnessed at the busy GS Road in Guwahati.

“There are no reports of any damage or injury so far. We are still awaiting reports from all our police stations. But I am sure there will be cracks in buildings. There are no after shocks yet,” Assam director general of police Jayanta Narayan Choudhury told Times Now earlier.

Assam falls in the seismic zone V making the area earthquake prone. What was noticeable in the earthquake was the duration which lasted for over 20 seconds.
