Delhi’s Red Fort car blast was planned after agencies busted the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) module at Haryana’s Faridabad, according to reports.

The CCTV footage has shown that the car involved in the Red Fort blast left Faridabad at around 7:30 am and entered the Red Fort complex’s parking at 3:19 pm and exited at 6:22 pm, according to ANI.

Just 20 minutes later, the car exploded at a traffic signal near the Red Fort Metro Station, killing at least 12 people and injuring 20.

ANI has reported that investigators believe after preliminary investigation that the suspect intended to carry out the attack as soon as they learnt that the Faridabad module had been busted.

Officials believe that the suspect appeared to have intended to carry out a ‘fidayeen’ attack to maximise casualties and avoid capture by police, as per ANI.

Investigators are also looking into the possibility of some other place being the actual target of the attack since the car was moving slowly, the report said.

As per the police, the car exploded at 6.52 pm.

The Red Fort blast occurred hours after authorities recovered around 360 kilograms of suspected ammonium nitrate and a cache of arms and ammunition from a Kashmiri doctor’s rented accommodation in Haryana’s Faridabad, near Delhi. They suspect that the two incidents could be linked.

Arrests and recoveries in Faridabad are part of an ongoing counter-terrorism investigation stretching from Jammu and Kashmir to Haryana.

The J&K Police has said that around 2,900 kg of bomb-making material has so far been recovered, including explosives, chemicals, reagents, inflammable material, electronic circuits, batteries, wires, remote controls, timers, and metal sheets.
