A loud ‘blast’ caused panic among locals in South Delhi’s Mahipalpur area on Thursday morning.

They informed the police and fire tenders and police personnel rushed to the area. But officials said that no explosives or signs of a bomb blast were found.

As the information about the blast came just days after a car blast killed 13 people and injured several people near Delhi’s Red Fort, the sound of the blast alarmed the people in Mahipalpur. A man called the police control room and informed them.

The Delhi Fire Service (DFS) said it received a call at 9:19 am about the sound of a last near Radisson at Mahipalpur. The DFS dispatched three fire tenders to the spot. But nothing was found at the spot.

The investigation revealed that it was a bus tyre that had burst and the loud sound of the tyre bust was the ‘blast’ that people had heard.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southwest) Amit Goel said that the person who informed the police control room heard the sound while on his way to Gurugram.

“The caller was contacted. He said that while he was on the way to Gurugram, a loud noise was heard. We checked everything and nothing was found. During local enquiry, a guard informed us that the rear tyre of a DTC bus going towards Dhaula Kuan had burst and the sound came from that,” Goyal told PTI.

The situation is normal and there is nothing to worry, said Goyal.
