Delhi blast LIVE updates: What happened and who’s behind it
A day after the Centre confirmed the Delhi car explosion as a “terror incident,” authorities have identified the driver as Dr Umar Nabi from Pulwama, Jammu & Kashmir. DNA tests from his mother have been matched with the remains recovered from the blast site.
If you missed the news: On Monday evening (November 10), a Hyundai i20 exploded near Delhi’s iconic Red Fort, killing 13 people and injuring nearly a dozen. The blast left vehicles mangled and sent shockwaves across the city.
Dr Umar, believed to be alone in the car, was a professor at Al-Falah University in Faridabad. Officials say he may have been trying to escape a multi-state police operation in Jammu & Kashmir, Haryana, and Uttar Pradesh, which has already led to eight arrests in the past 15 days, including three doctors.
As a precaution, the Lal Quila Metro Station remains closed, though all other metro stations and lines are functioning normally. Security across the capital has been heightened in response to the blast.
