In an embarrassing incident that could have turned into a tragic mishap, the automatic doors of a Delhi Metro train remained open and refused to close for about two minutes as the train sped between the Arjangarh and Ghitorni stations on the Yellow Line.
The doors on the left side of the metro remained open and closed only when the train reached the Ghitorni station. No one was hurt as the train was not very crowded and the passengers moved away from the open doors to a safer area inside the coach, according to a TimesNOW report. Eye-witnesses say that the doors remained open for 85 seconds. The train was travelling at a speed of 55 to 60 km/hr.
“Prima facie, it is an error by the engine operator. The train operator has been suspended with immediate effect,” said the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) in a statement released on the issue.
Reports say that this is not the first time that the Delhi Metro has witnessed a technical snag. Several passengers have complained of glitches taking place on the metro, causing an increasing number of delays.
