Delhi HC frowns on govt funds for school run by bureaucrats' wives

The Delhi High Court Wednesday asked the city’s Sanskriti School, run by spouses of top bureaucrats, the reason for a separate school for their children and expressed its displeasure over it receiving government funds. A division bench of Chief Justice NV Ramana and Justice Manmohan, expressing unhappiness over the separate school and funding received by it, said: “You cannot create a separate island for children of these bureaucrats.” [caption id=“attachment_119097” align=“alignleft” width=“380”] ![SchoolChildren_Reuters_New](https://images.firstpost.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/10/SchoolChildren_Reuters_New.jpg) Representational image. Reuters[/caption] It added: “What is the necessity for various state governments and ministries, including the defence ministry and the Reserve Bank of India, to fund the school run by officers’ wives?” The bench added: “Why is there a separate school for children of group ‘A’ officers? You cannot create a separate island for children of these bureaucrats.” The court also asked the school to file within a week a detailed affidavit relating to its management and the pattern of admission. The bench made its observations after the counsel for the school told it that earlier the institution had received government funds from various sources for its infrastructure but that it has now stopped getting funds. While 60 percent seats are for children of group ‘A’ officers, 10 percent are for the general public, five percent for staff and 25 percent for children under the category of Economically Weaker Section (EWS), the counsel submitted. The bench had taken suo motu cognisance of a 2006 media report about the school receiving government funds. (IANS)
