Araah, Bihar: A day-long curfew was today clamped on Araah district headquarter town in Bhojpur district as tension escalated following the gunning down of Brahmeshwar Singh, chief of now-defunct private militia Ranvir Sena.
“We have imposed a day-long curfew on Arrah town,” Sub-divisional officer Dharmesh Kumar said.
Angry supporters set two tankers and an auto on fire and chased away police personnel who were trying to take the body for an autopsy.
They also attacked the circuit house, the BDO’s office and the local railway station, protesting against the killing. Angry protestors also attacked the District Judge’s residence in Arrah, reported IBNlive .
Prohibitory orders under section 144 CrPC were also enforced in the district after the killing of Singh alias Mukhiyaji.
Kumar said the situation is tense, but under control.
Brahmeshwar Singh was shot dead earlier on Friday morning when he went out for a morning walk. He was accosted by gunmen who pumped several bullets into him, killing him on the spot at Katira Mohalla under Nawada police station, 71 kms from Patna.
