As per the new rates, one shot of Covishield will be available for Rs 780, a shot of COVAXIN for Rs 1,410 and a shot of Sputnik V for Rs 1,145, after taxes and service charges. The price per dose as declared by the manufacturer is Rs 600 for a dose of Covishield, Rs 1200 for a dose of COVAXIN, and Rs 948 for a dose of Sputnik V. However, after adding 5 percent GST imposed on vaccine doses, which comes to Rs 30 for Covishield, Rs 60 for Covaxin and Rs 47.40-47 for Sputnik V, and the service charge of Rs 150 (revised under the new vaccination guidelines), the final price per dose has come down. The Telangana Chief Minister’s Office on Tuesday announced the extension of lockdown across the state for 10 days starting from 10 June, however, restrictions will be eased between 6 am to 6 pm. Telangana extends lockdown for 10 days till 10 June
The Telangana Chief Minister’s Office on Tuesday announced the extension of lockdown across the state for 10 days starting from 10 June, however, restrictions will be eased between 6 am to 6 pm.

Jammu and Kashmir records 1,184 new cases, 11 deaths
Jammu and Kashmir recorded 1,184 fresh cases, taking the infection tally to 3,02,671 on Tuesday, while 11 deaths pushed the toll to 4,101, officials said. Out of the fresh cases, 421 were from the Jammu division and 763 from the Kashmir division, they said. Srinagar district recorded the highest of 245 cases, followed by 109 in Baramulla district. The number of active cases has dropped to 21,817 in the Union Territory, while 2,76,733 patients have recovered so far, the officials said. The toll due to the disease rose to 4,101 as 11 more patients died in the past 24 hours.
Meanwhile, the officials said there were 11 confirmed cases of mucormycosis (black fungus) in Jammu and Kashmir and one fresh case was reported since last evening.

Centre accords CISF cover for Bharat Biotech campus in Hyderabad

Coronavirus variant causing increased disease severity identified in India by NIV scientists
Scientists at Pune’s National Institute of Virology have isolated and characterised a coronavirus variant from two travellers — one who returned from the UK and the other from Brazil — that exhibits increased disease severity in hamsters but doesn’t pose a public health problem at the moment. The two samples of the B.1.1.28.2 variant are the only ones of its kind isolated by Indian labs so far.
The finding is significant since the variant is classified as a variant of interest by the World Health Organization, said study lead author Pragya Yadav from ICMR-NIV Pune. We also observed an increased disease severity and neutralisation reduction in the study which point towards the need for screening the current vaccines for efficacy, Yadav told PTI.

Kerala reports 15,567 new cases, 124 deaths
Kerala on Tuesday reported 15,567 new COVID-19 cases and 124 deaths, taking the tally to 26.27 lakh and the toll to 10,281. Recoveries continued to outnumber fresh infections with 20,019 people testing negative, taking the total to 25,04,011, the state government said. Mumbai’s Dharavi records six new COVID-19 cases
A day after the civic authorities relaxed certain curbs, the daily count of COVID-19 cases in Mumbai’s Dharavi rose to six on Tuesday, a senior official of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said.
With the addition of six new cases in the last 24- hours, the tally of infection in the slum-dominated area has reached 6,844, the official said. At least 6,465 patients have recovered from the infection so far, leaving the area with 20 active cases, he said. Dharavi has been seeing a daily count of one to three cases since May 31.

1,504 children lost one or both parents to COVID-19 in Marathwada
At least 1,504 children have lost one or both their parents to COVID-19 so far in Marathwada region of Maharashtra, an official said on Tuesday. The state government had ordered a survey to trace children orphaned in the pandemic. The survey was undertaken through Asha workers, local governing bodies, health department and other government agencies, which had the data of COVID-19 cases, the official said.
“As on June 7, 1,504 children up to the age of 18 have lost one or both their parents to the disease in Marathwada. Of these, 181 children have lost their mothers, while 1,296 have lost their fathers,” said Harsha Deshmukh, divisional deputy Commissioner of Woman and Child Development department.

Meghalaya reports 379 new COVID-19 cases, 9 more deaths
Meghalaya on Tuesday recorded 379 new COVID-19 cases pushing the tally to 39,535, health officials said. With the state recording nine more fatalities due to the viral disease, the death toll has risen to 678, they said.
The number of active cases in the state now stands at 4,924, the health officials said. Health Services director Aman War said, 773 persons recovered from the infection during the day. The total number of recoveries is 33,933.

Centre says door-to-door vaccination not possible, favours ’near-to-door’ system
The Centre told the Bombay High Court on Tuesday that a door-to-door COVID-19 vaccination programme for senior citizens, specially-abled, bed-ridden and wheelchair-bound people is currently not possible, but it has decided to start “near-to-door” inoculation centres.
The Union government in its affidavit filed in the HC said the National Expert Group on Vaccine Administration (NEGVAC) has considered the issue of door-to-door vaccination and opined that “near-to-door” vaccination would be an appropriate solution, and not door-to-door vaccination.
The court noted that almost 25 crore people have been vaccinated in India.

Give info on anti-fungus drugs allocation: Bombay HC to Centre
The Bombay High Court on Tuesday directed the Union government to submit details of the quantity of anti-fungal drugs allocated to various states for treating Mucormycosis, a rare infection found in recovering or recovered COVID-19 patients.
A bench of Chief Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice GS Kulkarni said it wanted to ascertain whether the Union government was ensuring an “equitable distribution” of drugs based on the number of active cases of Mucormycosis in each state.
In the course of hearing on a plea, the bench suggested the allocation of more quantity of anti-fungal drugs to Maharashtra given the number of Mucormycosis cases reported in the state. The bench said that the central government must give wide publicity to its advisory on preventing and managing Mucormycosis, also called “black fungus”.

Consignment of Sputnik V vaccine arrives at Chennai airport
A consignment of Russia’s Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine, said to be the first such one for Tamil Nadu, arrived here by a private airline from Hyderabad on Tuesday. The processing of the shipment at the Chennai airport was completed quickly and it was handed over to a transport agency, airportsources said.

Centre places order for 25 cr doses of Covishield, 19 cr of Covaxin
The Centre on Tuesday said that it has placed an order to purchase 25 crores doses of Covishield and 19 crore doses of Covaxin. “Government of India has also placed an order to purchase 30 crore doses of Biological E’s vaccine, which will be available by September,” said Dr VK Paul, Member-Health, Niti Aayog.

Odisha logs record 45 COVID-19 fatalities, 5,896 new cases
Odisha on Tuesday registered 5,896 new COVID-19 cases, pushing the caseload to 8,25,110, while 45 fatalities, the highest so far in a single day, raised the toll to 3,080, a health department official said. The case fatality ratio (CFR) stands at 0.37 per cent, which is one of the lowest in the country, he said.
Of the 5,896 new cases, 3,332 were recorded in quarantine centres, and the rest were detected during contact tracing, the official said. Odisha currently has 74,172 active cases, he said.

The World Health Organization said a minimum of 80 percent vaccination coverage is required to significantly lower the risk of coronavirus cases linked to new variants, like the delta variant first detected in India, the Associated Press reports.

317 new COVID-19 cases push Mizoram’s tally to 13,996
Mizoram on Tuesday reported 317 new COVID-19 cases, pushing the state’s tally to 13,996, an official statement said.

Puducherry govt extends lockdown till 14 June, eases several curbs
The Puducherry administration has extended its ongoing lockdown by another week from June 7 midnight to June 14 and announced an easing of several restrictions. The announcement comes following a decline in coronavirus cases in the union territory.

Over 1.19 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses still available with states: Centre
More than 1.19 crore COVID-19 vaccine doses are still available with the states and UTs to be administered, the Union Health Ministry said on Tuesday. Over 24 crore vaccine doses have been provided to states and UTs so far through Government of India (free of cost channel) and through direct state procurement category.
Of this, the total consumption, including wastages is 23,47,43,489 doses, the ministry said. “A total of 1,19,46,925 COVID-19 vaccine doses are still available with the states and UTs to be administered,” it said.

22 patients ‘turned blue’ after oxygen supply cut off during mock drill
Uttar Pradesh government has ordered an investigation after the owner of a hospital in Agra was purportedly caught on video saying that the facility cut off the oxygen supply for patients for five minutes in April in a “mock drill”.
As per India Today, Paras Hospital owner, Dr Arinjay Jain, also admitted that 22 patients started gasping for oxygen after the hospital snapped the oxygen supply for five minutes.
Jain can be heard saying in the video that the mock drill was done to check who would survive if the hospital’s oxygen supply ran out. Firstpost has not independently verified the authenticity of the video.
NDTV reports that in a statement to the media, Agra District Magistrate Prabhu N Singh claimed there was no death due to lack of oxygen on that day the alleged video was recorded. However, he said a probe would be conducted.

Pilots’ body seeks compensation for COVID-19 death, priority in vaccination
An association of Indian pilots has approached the Bombay High Court seeking schemes for adequate compensation for pilots who died of COVID-19 or got infected by it, priority in vaccination against the disease and insurance coverage for those working during the pandemic.
The petition, filed by the ‘‘Federation of Indian Pilots’’, said pilots are providing essential services, and sought a direction to the Union government to provide an ex-gratia amount of Rs 10 crore to the families of pilots who died due to COVID-19.
As per the public interest litigation (PIL), since February 2021, 13 pilots have succumbed to COVID-19.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced relaxations in COVID-19 restrictions, which will be applicable for the next one week.
The night curfew will continue from 7 pm to 5 am, while government and private offices will function till 4 pm with 50 percent strength. Shops will open till 5 pm and private vehicles will be permitted.

Corona curfew extended in Madhya Pradesh till 15 June
Madhya Pradesh government extended the corona curfew till 15 June but with certain relaxations. The state reported 535 new COVID19 cases and 1,376 recoveries in the last 24 hours. The number of active cases in the state is down to 7,983.

Uttar Pradesh lifts curfew in all districts
The Uttar Pradesh government decided to lift the coronavirus curfew from 7 am to 7 pm in all districts. The night curfew and the weekend curfew will still be continued in all districts, an official spokesperson said.
“There will be relaxation in coronavirus curfew in all the districts of the state from Wednesday onwards, from 7 am to 7 pm, for five days as the active Covid cases have come below 600,” he said. The active caseload in the state stands at 14,000 with less than 600 active cases in each district.
