The Enforcement Directorate on Tuesday night brought back former Jharkhand chief minister Madhu Koda’s aide, Anil Bastawade to India, reports CNN-IBN . Bastawade is accused in the money-laundering case and was detained in Jakarta on 21 January after an Interpol notice.

The ED had sought and got his custody from an Indonesian court. The CBI alleges that Bastawade siphoned off nearly Rs 4,000 crore from the Madhu Koda government to pay for coal mine contracts.

Meanwhile the Supreme Court yesterday granted 45 days to Enforcement Directorate (ED) to complete its probe against former Jharkhand Chief Minister Madhu Koda for his alleged role in the money laundering case.

The former Jharkhand Chief Minister has been accused by the ED of making illegal investments worth Rs 1,340 crore out of the total amount. ED suspects Bastawade to have made alleged illegal investments in Dubai and other foreign locations on behalf of Koda and his other associates.

The agency has named him in its charge sheet and has underlined his role in purchasing properties in the UAE from criminal proceeds generated by alleged illegal activities during the tenure of Koda.
