A passenger train and a goods train collided head-on near Lalkhadan in Chhattisgarh’s Bilaspur district on Tuesday, causing several coaches to derail.
Preliminary reports indicate that there may be casualties and injuries, though officials have not yet confirmed the exact numbers.
Rescue and medical teams from the railways and local administration were rushed to the spot, and efforts are underway to assist the injured and clear the damaged coaches.
Train services on the Bilaspur–Howrah route have been completely disrupted, with several trains cancelled or diverted. The collision also damaged overhead power lines and signal systems, which officials said could take time to repair.
The accident occurred on the Bilaspur–Katni section, a key and busy rail corridor.
This is a developing story.
