No faith in law? Father tortures daughter's rapist to death

In a bizarre incident, a man tortured and killed his daughter’s rapist, after inviting him to his house for dinner.

The Indian Express reported that “The 36-year-old reportedly burned the man’s genitals using heated tongs and then strangled him to death. The incident was reported from Northeast Delhi’s Khajuri Khas area on Saturday.”

The rapist was reportedly a medicine supplier who had raped the 14-year-old girl two months ago.

The Indian Express quoted a police officer as saying, “The father called the medicine supplier over to his house saying he wanted to discuss some issue. He served him dinner. After the meal, the father overpowered the man and tied him to a chair. He got heated tongs and burned the supplier’s genitals before strangling him to death. He came to the police station and surrendered himself.”

The father was reportedly apprehensive about going to the police fearing that his daughter would get a bad name. After killing the man, the father went to the police station and surrendered.

Gawker reported that “The father allegedly discovered his daughter had been raped by a 45-year-old married medical supplier while he was away on a business trip.”

This incident points to two things. One, in our country there is still no empathy towards victims of rape and sexual assault which makes it difficult for the victims themselves or their relatives to report such incidents. Often instead of helping the victim cope with their distress, the society blames them for what happened.

Two, despite protests , rallies and forming of new rape laws, there is still little faith in the justice system and the police.

According to the police, the father gave a detailed account of how he tortured the medicine supplier and also said that he had been planning the murder for a long time.
