Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday confirmed that the explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort took place in a Hyundai i20 car and said that all possible angles are being investigated.

“This evening, around 7 pm, a blast occurred in a Hyundai i20 car at the Subhash Marg traffic signal near the Red Fort in Delhi. The blast injured some pedestrians and damaged several vehicles. Preliminary reports indicate that some people have lost their lives,” ANI quoted Shah as saying in a statement.

He added that within 10 minutes of receiving the information, teams from the Delhi Crime Branch and Special Branch reached the site, followed by the National Security Guard (NSG), National Investigation Agency (NIA), and forensic experts.

“All nearby CCTV cameras are being examined. I have spoken to the Delhi Police Commissioner and the Special Branch in-charge, both of whom are present at the site. We are exploring all possibilities and will conduct a thorough investigation. The findings will be shared with the public,” said the Home Minister, adding that he would visit the blast site and the hospital treating the injured.

A high-intensity explosion ripped through a car near the Red Fort metro station on Monday evening, gutting several vehicles and killing at least 13 people.

Twenty-four people were injured in the blast that took place on a busy evening when the area was milling with people. The injured were taken to the LNJP hospital, a few kilometres away.
