AIIMS report reveals Katara killers don't need hospitalisation

Following an investigation by CNN-IBN and a direction from the Delhi High Court, a medical board at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) examined convicted duo — Vikas and Vishal Yadav — in the Nitish Katara case and said the two are not suffering from any medical condition and don’t require hospitalisation.

The Delhi High Court earlier directed an examination of the two convicts who have been misusing jail norms to get time out of jail.

A board of 10 doctors examined Vikas and Vishal between February 9 and 13, 2012 and found that both were able to perform daily activities without any assistance and did not require any medical help.

CNN-IBN had on 7 November exposed how the killers of Nitish Katara regularly misused jail norms to spend time out of prison. Since their conviction in 2008 in the Nitish Katara murder case, the duo made 151 visits to AIIMS and Batra Hospital.

In fact Vikas spent 25 days in a luxury ward from 10 October 10 to 4 November in 2011 after claiming he had a backache and cough. His cousin, Vishal Yadav, also made 69 visits to Batra Hospital and was admitted twice for two and four months, respectively. Vishal cited problems like tuberculosis and stomach ailments.

Nitish’s mother Neelam Katara had filed reports showing that Vikas was missing from his room several times.

“He was out several times on the October 26 and he is actually serving life imprisonment. So we don’t know if he’s actually spending time in hospital or not,” Neelam Katara told CNN-IBN.

The CNN-IBN investigation had also shown that the duo was not suffering from any medical problem.
