Ahmedabad plane crash: 25 injured undergoing treatment, say police

The police have said that 25 people are undergoing treatment for injuries sustained in the plane crash. The police have also said that there does not appear to be any survivor among the passengers and crew of the plane.

The Ahmedabad Police has released names of 25 persons undergoing treatment for injuries from the Air India plane crash.

Earlier in the day, Air India flight AI171 crashed in Ahmedabad’s Meghaninagar area. The flight had 242 passengers.

The plane crashed into a hostel of BJ Medical College. Those undergoing are understood to be primarily from among those injured upon impact at the hostel.

Previously, Ahmedabad Police Commissioner GS Malik said that there do not appear to be any survivors.

“It appears there are no survivors in the plane crash…Exact figures on casualties are being ascertained,” Malik told AP.

In an apparent reference to the hostel that the plane struck, Maliks said that as the plane hit a residential area, “some locals would have also died”.

As per the latest information, at least 170 people have been killed in the crash, which makes it one of the worst aviation disasters in the Indian history.

The Air India flight took off at 1:39 pm from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport and, minutes later, the pilot made a mayday call . He did not respond to any communication from the air traffic control. Shortly after the mayday call, the plane crashed.
