Ahmedabad plane crash: 204 bodies recovered so far, 41 injured under treatment, say police

At least 204 bodies have been recovered from the site of the Air India crash, according to Ahmedabad Police Commissioner GS Malik.

At least 204 bodies have been recovered from the site of the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad, according to the police.

Ahmedabad Police Commissioner GS Malik told AFP, “We have found 204 bodies.”

Patil further said that 41 injured persons were “under treatment”.

The dead included those present in the place as well as those from the building that the plane crashed into.

Air India flight AI171 on Thursday crashed minutes after takeoff at around 2 pm in Ahmedabad’s Meghaninagar area. The plane, which was carrying 242 passengers and 12 crew members, crashed into doctor’s residential quarters at the BJ Medical College.

One person, Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, has survived the crash . Malik said that he was found in the seat 11A in the flight. No other survivor has so far been found.

Union minister CR Patil said earlier in the day that former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani was also in the same London-bound flight and has died.

“Our leader, former Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, was on that flight. He, too, has fallen victim to this tragic accident. May God grant peace to his soul. This is a deep blow to the BJP family as well,” said Patil.
