In the wake of warnings by astrologers that moving the treasure of the Sree Padmanabhaswamy temple in Kerala could incur the wrath of the Gods, temple trustees are conducting a ritual to find out how the Gods feel about it.
Called a ‘devaprashna’, the three-day ritual will seek to understand if the Gods will really be angered if the treasure is moved out of the temple vaults.
In the meantime, the Supreme Court has assured devotees that religious sentiments will also be taken into consideration when it decides what to do with the treasure.
The issue of what to do with the treasure, valued at 1.50 lakh crore has created fierce debate. Marthanda Varma, the eldest member of the Travancore royal family has openly said that the temple treasure belongs to God.
Meanwhile the Supreme Court last month, appointed a five-member expert committee to supervise the process of unearthing and preservation of assets at the temple.
