Japan ties-up with Godrej to promote ethnic food

New Delhi: The Japanese government today said that it has collaborated with Godrej Group's gourmet retail chain, Nature's Basket to popularise ethnic Japanese food in Delhi, Mumbai and Hyderabad.

On the 60th anniversary of India-Japan diplomatic relations, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF), Japan, has launched Taste Japan, which introduces ethnic Japanese food like Sushi, Tempura and Ramen noodles in India through Godrej's premium food retail chain.

"Through Taste Japan, which is designated as one of the projects of the 60th anniversary of Japan-India diplomatic relations, we hope that Japanese food items will be more accessible to ordinary citizens,"

It will also contribute in strengthening bilateral business and cultural ties between both the nations, he added.

"Japanese cuisine with its varied flavours, health benefits and sheer aesthetics is something that our country is now beginning to appreciate," Godrej Nature's Basket managing director Mohit Khattar said.

According to Kintetsu World Express Sales Inc., project director Hiroshi Inoue, Japanese food market in India is in its developing stages, but it will be one of the world's most important markets for Japanese food in the future given India's rapid economic growth and population.

Under the promotional programme, ethnic Japanese cuisines would be available at 3 Nature's Basket outlets in Delhi, Mumbai and Hyderabad till 25 March.
