Former Pakistan captain and legendary fast bowler Wasim Akram has expressed deep concern over the health of former prime minister Imran Khan after reports claimed that he has lost most of the vision in his right eye while in jail. Khan has been in a Pakistani jail since 2023 in cases linked to his time in the government.
Taking to X, Akram shared an emotional message for his former skipper. “It is heartbreaking to hear our skipper Imran Khan going through health issues. I sincerely hope the authorities take this seriously and ensure he receives the best possible medical care. Wishing him strength, a speedy recovery, and a full return to good health,” Akram wrote.
What has happened to Imran Khan?
Imran Khan’s health has become a major issue in Pakistan in recent days. According to reports, Khan now has only 15% vision left in his right eye. The Supreme Court of the country has directed the government to conduct a full medical check-up by February 16 and reminded that a prisoner’s health is the state’s responsibility.
As per a report submitted in Pakistan’s apex court, Khan had normal vision in both eyes as recently as October 2025. However, he later started experiencing blurred and hazy vision, which eventually led to a sudden loss of sight in his right eye. An ophthalmologist diagnosed a blood clot that caused serious damage. Although treatment was given in January, only partial vision could be restored.
The Supreme Court also instructed jail authorities to allow Khan to speak to his sons, Qasim and Sulaiman, over the phone and to consult his personal doctors if needed. Khan’s son, Kasim, also reacted strongly on social media. He claimed that his father’s condition was a result of long solitary confinement and medical neglect in jail.
“We have been informed that my father, Imran Khan, has lost most of the vision in his right eye, with reports indicating only 15 percent eyesight remains. This is the direct consequence of 922 days of solitary confinement, medical neglect (denied blood tests) and the deliberate denial of proper treatment in jail,” Kasim wrote on X.
