Former Pakistan cricketers Waqar Younis, Mohammad Amir and Mohammad Asif have sent a warning to Indian opener Abhishek Sharma as they shared tips with bowlers on how to get the opener out in the Asia Cup 2025 final. Explosive opener Abhishek Sharma has proven to be India’s biggest trump card in the Asia Cup 2025, scoring 309 runs in six matches at a strike rate of over 200.

In India’s two victories over Pakistan in the ongoing tournament, Abhishek smashed 31 and 74, emerging as their new nemesis as the bowlers have struggled to find their rhythm against his epic bat swing and early carnage.

Younis, Amir try to create psychological pressure on Abhishek

Legendary Pakistan fast bowler Waqar Younis has tried to create psychological pressure on Abhishek Sharma as he said that everyone will be under pressure in the final, and Pakistani bowlers can get him out early on with some “clarity.”

“Abhishek can take the game away in the first few overs, but everyone has a bad day and his could be on Sunday. There will be pressure on him in a final, and if Pakistani bowlers bowl with clarity and plan, they can get him out early,” Waqar Younis told telecomasia.net.

Former Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir feels inswinging deliveries could create a problem for Abhishek, who has fallen victim to a similar strategy by Mitchell Starc.

“A bowler should not allow him [Abhishek] to open his arms. Bowling a swinging delivery inside the stumps, four to five metres in length, can force an edge. I have seen Mitchell Starc dismiss him in the IPL with an outswinger. A perfect slower ball could also work, as he plays with hard hands — it might get him out caught in the air in the circle,” he said.

Former pacer Mohammad Asif asked the Pakistan bowlers to keep things simple and just aim for consistency in pitching the ball, which he feels would be enough to do the job. “Bowl three deliveries to him at the same spot. He’ll play the first two and get out on the third. Trying to bowl different deliveries too early won’t succeed. And you can’t start with a bouncer — like Shaheen did in the second match,” said Asif.
