Mithun Manhas elected new BCCI president, Rajeev Shukla stays as vice-president

Former Delhi captain Mithun Manhas has been elected as the new BCCI president at the board’s 94th AGM. He has become the 37th full-time president. Rajeev Shukla will stay as vice-president and Arun Dhumal will continue as IPL chairman.

Former Delhi cricketer Mithun Manhas has been elected as the new president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The announcement was made at the 94th Annual General Meeting of the board on Sunday, September 28. With this, Manhas has become the 37th full-time president of the BCCI.

The 45-year-old was reportedly the only candidate running for the post, which had been lying vacant since former India all-rounder Roger Binny stepped down in August this year. BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla had been handling the responsibilities as an interim president. Shukla, meanwhile, has retained his position as the vice-president

BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia will continue in his role for now. Former India spinner Raghuram Bhat, who is from the Karnataka board, has been appointed as the new treasurer. Prabhtej Singh Bhatia has taken over as the new joint secretary. Meanwhile, Arun Dhumal has been retained as the chairman of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Earlier this morning, Manhas arrived at the BCCI headquarters for the AGM dressed in a white suit, ready to take over as the new boss of the world’s richest cricket board. Manhas’ election comes just hours before the highly anticipated Asia Cup final between bitter rivals India and Pakistan.

The key decisions made are as under:

1. The following members were elected as the new Office Bearers of the BCCI:
(a)  President: Mr. Mithun Manhas
(b) Vice President: Mr. Rajeev Shukla
(c) Secretary: Mr. Devajit Saikia
(d) Joint Secretary: Mr. Prabhtej Bhatia
(e) Treasurer: Mr. A. Raghuram Bhat

2. One representative of the General Body was elected in the Apex Council of the BCCI:
(a)  Mr. Jaydev Shah

3. Two representatives in the Indian Premier League Governing Council were elected:
(a)  Mr. Arun Singh Dhumal; and
(b) Mr. M Khairul Jamal Majumdar.

4. The audited accounts for FY 2024-25 were passed and adopted by the General Body.

5. The Annual Budget of FY 2025-26 was approved by the General Body.

6. Men’s Selection Committee was announced. The Selection Committee will have the following members:
(i)                 Mr. Ajit Agarkar (Chairperson);
(ii)                Mr. Shiv Sundar Das;
(iii)               Mr. Ajay Ratra;
(iv)               Mr. R. P. Singh; and
(v)                Mr. Pragyan Ojha.

Mr. R.P. Singh and Mr. Pragyan Ojha have been newly inducted in the men’s selection committee.

7. Women’s Selection Committee was announced. The Women’s Selection Committee will have the following members:
(i)             Ms. Amita Sharma (Chairperson);
(ii)                Ms. Shyama Dey;
(iii)               Ms. Sulakshana Naik;
(iv)               Ms. Jaya Sharma; and
(v)                Ms. Sravanthi Naidu.

Ms. Amita Sharma, Ms. Sulakshana Naik, Ms. Jaya Sharma and Ms. Sravanthi Naidu have been newly inducted in the Women’s Selection Committee.

8. Junior Cricket Committee was announced. The Junior Cricket Committee will have the following members:
(i)             Mr. S Sharath (Chairperson)
(ii)                Mr. Harvinder Sodhi
(iii)               Mr. Pathik Patel
(iv)               Mr. Krishna Mohan; and
(v)                Mr. Ranadeb Bose

Mr. S. Sharath has been newly inducted in the Junior Cricket Committee.

9. The WPL committee will have the following members:

(i)             Mr. Jayesh George; (Chairperson)
(ii)            Mr. Mithun Manhas;
(iii)           Mr. Rajeev Shukla;
(iv)           Mr. Devajit Saikia;
(v)            Mr. Prabhtej Bhatia;
(vi)           Mr. A Raghuram Bhat;
(vii)          Ms. Madhumati Lele;
(viii)        Mr. Sanjay Tandon;
(ix)           Mr. R. I. Palani; and
(x)            Mr. Arun Singh Dhumal.

10. The Infrastructure Committee will have the following members:

(i)             Mr. Rohan Jaitley; (Chairperson)
(ii)            Mr. Mithun Manhas;
(iii)           Mr. Rajeev Shukla;
(iv)           Mr. Devajit Saikia;
(v)            Mr. Prabhtej Bhatia;
(vi)           Mr. A Raghuram Bhat;
(vii)          Mr. Anirudh Chaudhury; and
(viii)        Mr. Sana Sathish Babu.
