Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli were missing once again as another round of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-25 got underway on Wednesday (31 December). Both Rohit and Kohli turned up for Mumbai and Delhi, respectively, in the first two matches of the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy (VHT), but the veterans have been missing since then.
Fans were hoping to see Rohit and Kohli make a comeback to VHT on Wednesday, but Rohit is not a part of Mumbai’s playing XI in the match vs Goa, while Delhi are also without Kohli against Odisha.
Why Rohit and Kohli are missing from Vijay Hazare Trophy?
Rohit started the Vijay Hazare Trophy campaign with an explosive 155 against Sikkim at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. Kohli cracked 131 for Delhi vs Andhra Pradesh in his first match. In the second match, Rohit got out on a first-ball duck vs Uttarakhand in Jaipur, while Kohli made a match-winning 77 against Gujarat in his second match.
It has been informed that Kohli would play three Vijay Hazare Trophy matches for Delhi this season. Having already played two games, Kohli can play for Delhi against Railways on 6 January before the ODI series against New Zealand starts on 11 January.
“As of now, he is playing. Virat have given his availability for three games,” Delhi and Districts Cricket Association (DDCA) President Rohan Jaitley had told PTI.
Rohit, meanwhile, was scheduled to play just two matches for Mumbai inthe Vijay Hazare Trophy, and he may straight join the Team India camp on 8 January in Vadodara.
Meanwhile, Team India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, who could be picked in the ODI squad, made 46 off 64 balls for Mumbai against Goa on Wednesday.
Rishabh Pant, who is also a part of Delhi’s playing XI against Odisha, would hope to make a significant contribution in the match. There are reports that he could be dropped from the ODI side in favour of Ishan Kishan.
