India had earlier beaten USA in their tournament opener to take the top position in Group A but now with Pakistan winning two matches, the Men in Blue are at the second spot. However, they will soon have chance to reclaim the pole position when they face Namibia on Thursday in Delhi.
Also, India currently are tied for points with Netherlands who trounced Namibia in the opening game of Tuesday. The Dutch side had earlier lost the tournament’s first match to Pakistan narrowly, but they bounced back to get the better of Namibia and are only behind India due to net run rate. However, as discussed above, India have a game in hand.
T20 World Cup 2026 Group A Points Table
Pakistan are currently leading Group A.
Here, we look at how each team in Group A can reach the Super 8s after the USA’s loss to Pakistan.
Group A Super 8 scenarios
Pakistan: Salman Ali Agha’s men need to win one more game to confirm their position in the Super 8s. So, the equation is pretty simple in front of Pakistan. Beat India in the next match and go straight to Super 8s. However, they can lose that match and still qualify for the Super 8s by winning their last group game against Namibia.
India: After a scratchy start, India will be looking dominate the tournament as they were expected to. They need to beat two of Namibia, Pakistan and Netherlands in their remaining Group A fixtures. If they lose to Pakistan, then the match against Netherlands could become a knock-out clash.
Netherlands: If the Dutch miss out on qualifying for the Super 8s, they will curse themselves for not winning their match against Pakistan. Due to that loss, they now have to win all their games. They have defeated Namibia, so, that is a good start. Now they have to also beat USA and India next. As stated, above, there is a potential of the India vs Netherlands match becoming a knock-out affair. So tough task ahead for Scott Edwards’ men.
Quick Reads
View AllNamibia: The African side has played just one game and lost that to the Netherlands. They can easily qualify for the next round by winning the next three matches. However, they are yet to face India and Pakistan and that makes their way really tough even if they pull off an upset victory against one of the two heavyweights.
USA: After two losses, Monak Patel-led USA are still in with a chance mathematically but for all practical purposes, their T20 World Cup journey is not going to go beyond the group stage this time. The losses against India and Pakistan have essentially killed their campaign.
