India moved to the top of ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 points table even before the Dharamsala Test against England as Australia defeated New Zealand in the first Test at Wellington Sunday. Nathan Lyon took six wickets as Australia defeated New Zealand by 172 runs to land a big blow on the Kiwis who were leading the WTC points table.
New Zealand’s percentage of points won - Points Percentage System (PCT) - went from 75 to 60 after losing to Australia as they dropped a spot down, while India are at top with a PCT of 64.58 and 62 points from eight matches with five wins and one draw.
New Zealand are second in the table with three wins from five matches and two defeats. Over all they have 36 points.
Australia also managed to improve their PCT 55 to 59.09 and are third in the table with seven wins from 11 matches and 78 points.
Bangladesh at fourth is the last team to have a PCT of 50 or more with one win and one draw from two matches.
India’s fifth and final Test against England will begin on 7 March at Dharamsala and it will be an opportunity for Rohit Sharma and Co to consolidate their PCT in WTC points table.
India are scheduled to play at five Tests at home next against Bangladesh and New Zealand from September and November later this year before a tour to Australia to end the ongoing WTC cycle.
