IPL Retention 2025 Highlights:
The 10 Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises will have to submit their final list of retentions by 31 October (Thursday) but before they make the final submissions, the IPL teams are expected to come to a final decision on Wednesday (30 October). Already the news of KL Rahul leaving Lucknow Super Giants is doing the round, while MS Dhoni is expected to be retained by Chennai Super Kings under the uncapped player category.
As per the IPL retention rules for announced by the BCCI last month, all teams are allowed to retain six players by retentions or Right to Match (RTM) card. The IPL franchises are free to decide the mix of retention and RTMs. There’s one rule though. The IPL teams can have a maximum of five capped players – Indian or overseas – and a maximum of two uncapped players.
Another major retention rule for the IPL 2025 mega auction is that a capped player will become uncapped if he retired from international cricket for more than five years preceding the year in which the relevant season is held. This rule is expected to favour MS Dhoni and CSK.
The IPL teams – Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Delhi Capitals, Kolkata Knight Riders, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rajasthan Royals, Gujarat Titans, Punjab Kings, and Lucknow Super Giants – have to submit the final retention lists by 31 October.
