The Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auction ahead of the 2025 season is just around the corner. The last time an IPL mega auction took place was in 2022, when Bengaluru hosted the event. This time, the auction is reportedly scheduled to take place in Riyadh towards the end of November, but before the auction, all 10 franchises have to announce the list of players retained. The deadline for the retention announcement is the upcoming Thursday (31 October).

We take a look at all the teams, the players they had retained ahead of the 2022 auction and if those players could be retained again.

Andre Russell, too, will be retained in all likelihood. As per RevSportz, the KKR management is likely to meet on either 29 or 30 October to discuss possible retentions. A decision on skipper Shreyas Iyer is likely to be made. KKR might use the RTM option to retain Rinku Singh and Varun Chakravarthy. Venkatesh Iyer could also be retained.

Players retained ahead of IPL 2022 mega auction: Kane Williamson (Rs 14 crore), Umran Malik (uncapped, Rs 4 crore), Abdul Samad (Uncapped, Rs 4 crores)
Will these players be retained again?
Kane Williamson moved on from SRH following the 2022 IPL season to Gujarat Titans, so his retention is out of the question. It also seems less likely that Umran Malik and Abdul Samad will be retained.
Rajasthan Royals
Players retained ahead of IPL 2022 mega auction: Sanju Samson (Rs 14 crores), Jos Buttler (Rs 10 crore) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (Uncapped, Rs 4 crore)
Will these players be retained again?
All of these three players have formed the core of Rajasthan Royals over the last few years. While Sanju Samson and Yashasvi Jaiswal look set to be retained, it has been reported that Jos Buttler could go back to the auction pool.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru
Players retained ahead of IPL 2022 mega auction: Virat Kohli (Rs 15 crores) Glenn Maxwell (Rs 11 crores) and Mohammed Siraj (Rs 7 crores)
Will these players be retained again?
It is almost a no-brainer that RCB will retain Virat Kohli ahead of the IPL 2025 auction. Despite enduring an underwhelming campaign, Mohammed Siraj could also be retained.

However, RCB could decide to let go of Glenn Maxwell, who managed just 52 runs and six wickets in IPL 2024.

Will these players be retained again?
MS Dhoni will all but be retained as an “uncapped player” ahead of the auction. As per a report in Cricbuzz, Ravindra Jadeja will be the first-choice retention for CSK, with Ruturaj Gaikwad the next. Moeen Ali, who scored 128 runs and took two wickets in eight matches, will be released.
“I just want to enjoy whatever last few years of cricket I am able to play,” Dhoni told the Times of India, hinting of a possible return in IPL 2025. “The emotions keep coming, the commitments are there. I want to enjoy the game for the next few years. I have to keep myself fit for nine months, so that I can play two and a half months of IPL. You need to plan it out, but at the same time chill a bit,” he added.
Delhi Capitals
Players retained ahead of IPL 2022 mega auction: Rishabh Pant (Rs 16 crore), Axar Patel (Rs 9 crore), Prithvi Shaw(Rs 7.5 crore) and Anrich Nortje (Rs 6.5 crore)
Will these players be retained again?
Delhi Capitals were expected to retain Rishabh Pant despite speculation of the wicketkeeper-batter’s possible move to Chennai Super Kings. However, a cryptic post from Pant earlier this month indicates he might not stay with the Capitals after all. Axar Patel could also be retained but it remains to be seen if Prithvi Shaw and Anrich Nortje will remain with the franchise.

Mumbai Indians
Players retained ahead of IPL 2022 mega auction: Rohit Sharma (16 crores), Jasprit Bumrah (12 crores), Suryakumar Yadav (8 crores), Kieron Pollard (6 crores)
Will these players be retained again?
Despite his MI future thrown into doubt, Rohit Sharma could reportedly be retained by the five-time champions. There’s no reason why Jasprit Bumrah and Suryakumar Yadav should not be retained as well. Kieron Pollard retired from the IPL after the 2022 season, so all eyes will be on skipper Hardik Pandya this time around.
Gujarat Titans
Players acquired before IPL 2022 mega auction: Hardik Pandya (Rs 15 crores), Rashid Khan (Rs 15 crores) and Shubman Gill (Rs 8 crores)
Will these players be retained again?
Hardik Pandya made a blockbuster move to Mumbai Indians ahead of the 2024 season. The only way Gujarat Titans can buy him is if Pandya is released by MI and goes to the auction pool. Shubman Gill, the skipper, and Rashid Khan, could be among GT’s top three retentions.
Lucknow Super Giants
Players acquired before IPL 2022 mega auction: KL Rahul (Rs 17 crores), Marcus Stoinis (Rs 9.2 crores) and Ravi Bishnoi (Rs 4 crores)
