The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 auction will be taking place on 24 and 25 November in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. It has been speculated that Rishabh Pant and KL Rahul could fetch bids of over Rs 20 crore in the IPL auction 2025 but before that, we want to take a look at the players who were sold for the highest value in the player auctions over the years. Australia pacer Mitchell Starc holds the record for being the most expensive player in IPL’s history as he was sold to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for Rs 24.75 crore, while MS Dhoni was the most expensive player in the very first edition of 2008.

STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD

The former India captain Dhoni was bought by the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for 9.5 crore in the IPL 2008 auction and he has been with the franchise ever since except for the two years in the last decade when CSK were suspended from the league and Dhoni represented the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiant.

Largely in all the IPL auctions the player with the highest price tag has always made big money except for the 2010 auction when Kieron Pollard and Shane Bond fetched Rs 4.8 crore bids each. However, if you adjust that money for inflation, the Rs 4.8 crore bids will turn into double digits in today’s money.
