December 28, 2021, 21:38:39 (IST)

That brings us to the end of a fascinating day of cricket, one that was dominated mainly by the bowlers. Lungi Ngidi (6/71) and Mohammed Shami (5/44) stood out for their respective teams as 18 wickets fell in the day for 268 runs. The Proteas managed to avoid the follow on after being reduced to 32/4 at one stage, thanks mainly to the Bavuma-de Kock partnership and contributions from the lower order, but still are on the backfoot with the 130-run lead that they conceded.

India will hope to accumulate runs quickly tomorrow and set the Proteas a target in excess of 300 to say the least. There’s a possibility of rain interrupting proceedings again on the final day, and the visitors will definitely keep that in mind when they walk out to bat tomorrow.

That’s it from us in our coverage of the third day’s play. See you all tomorrow!

SIX! Rabada decides to take on the leading off-spinner, smashing the ball over Ashwin’s head straight over the sight screen. Bit of delay after that strike as the fielder cannot spot the ball, with the umpires calling for drinks during the ball-hunt. Looks like KG was a bit fired up before going for that shot, perhaps the result of some chirps from keeper Pant. Dot off each of the last two deliveries of the over on the other side of the drinks interval.
