After a comprehensive win over England in the third Test in Rajkot, a confident Indian team will look to seal the series in the next game, scheduled to start at the JSCA Stadium in Ranchi on 23 February. After being stunned in the first match in Hyderabad, the Indian team are back as the dominant force in home conditions. If the last two matches are anything to go by, the Rohit Sharma-led side have found the perfect template on good batting pitches.
JSCA Stadium, Ranchi: Key numbers in Test matches
The JSCA International Stadium in Ranchi hosted its maiden Test match in March 2017 as India took on Australia. It was a high-scoring draw between the two countries. Cheteshwar Pujara was adjudged Player of the Match for his superb knock of 202.
It then played host to a Test between India and South Africa in a match where Rohit Sharma took centre stage with a brilliant knock of 212 runs off 255 balls. The Indian bowlers never let the Proteas out of their sights as they knocked them over for just 162 runs. Virat Kohli enforced the follow on, but South Africa’s second innings was even more bleak. Theunis de Bruyn was the top scorer with 30 runs as they were bundled out for 133 runs. India won this match by an innings and 202 runs.
As far as the pitch is concerned, it has proven to be a good one for the batters, especially on the first two days. The captain winning the toss would once again opt to bat first and post a big score. The surface will then probably offer assistance to the spinners as the Test match chugs along. This is where the accuracy of the spinners will come to the fore. Batters can score runs with an average of 37.96 runs per wicket and with 3.07 runs per over.
