Australia suffered a mini-collapse in the afternoon session, going from 80/2 to 91/6 with Bumrah collecting three wickets in two overs and becoming the only bowler with 200 or more Test wickets with an average under 20.

Marnus Labuschagne and skipper Pat Cummins, however, stood tall and stitched together a handy little seventh-wicket partnership that was worth 57. Cummins battled on even after the former was trapped LBW off Siraj’s bowling shortly after tea, with pace colleague Mitchell Starc getting run-out at the non-striker’s end just three overs later.
The Australian skipper was eventually caught by his Indian counterpart Rohit Sharma at slip off Ravindra Jadeja, but had added 41 crucial runs to his team’s second innings total till then, with Australia’s lead closing in on the 300-mark.
