The 2025 ICC Champions Trophy might still be more than a month away, but teams have already announced their squads. England were the first, doing so on 21 December while New Zealand, Bangladesh and Afghanistan unveiled theirs on 12 January – the deadline set by the ICC. Australia and South Africa announced theirs a day after the deadline while India waited till 18 January before announcing the Rohit Sharma-led squad, which included senior pacer Mohammed Shami.
Hosts and defending champions Pakistan were the last to unveil their squad, doing so on Friday, 31 January with the Mohammad Rizwan-led side including senior opener Fakhar Zaman in place of injured rising star Saim Ayub.
The 2025 Champions Trophy, which will begin on 19 February, will be held in a hybrid model with Pakistan and Dubai hosting the matches. India will play all of their matches in Dubai after they refused to travel to Pakistan due to security concerns. India are in Group A and will start their campaign against Bangladesh on 20 February. They will then face Pakistan on 23 February before ending the group stage against New Zealand on 2 March.
Despite being included in India’s squad, but there are concerns over Jasprit Bumrah’s fitness. Bumrah had picked up a back spasm during the fifth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Test series against Australia in Sydney earlier this month, and could end up missing the group stage of the tournament.
