The BCCI announced the Team India squads for the upcoming ODI series against England and the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy on Saturday, with Rohit Sharma being retained as skipper. The squad also features Team India regulars like Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant. One of the biggest talking points was that of Jasprit Bumrah, and the pacer has been included in India’s squad for the Champions Trophy, with his participation subject to fitness.

Also making a comeback to the squad is Shreyas Iyer, Yashsvi Jaiswal has been picked, while Shubman Gill has been named the vice-captain. Other members of the squad are Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Arshdeep Singh, and Ravindra Jadeja.

Shami returns to ODI squad, Jadjea retained

This is the first time Shami has been picked for the ODIs since the 2023 World Cup. After recovering from ankle surgery, the 34-year-old pacer was earlier picked in the T20I squad as well. However, he is still to play an international match since November 2023. The T20I series against England starts on 22 January in Kolkata.

BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar said during the press conference that Harshit Rana will be part of the ODI squad for the first few matches against England at home till Bumrah attains full match fitness.

“We are waiting on Jasprit Bumrah’s fitness and will know his status in early February from BCCI’s medical team,” Agarkar said.

Bumrah had sustained a back spasm during the fifth Test between Australia and India in Sydney earlier in January and had been doubtful to make the Men in Blue’s squad for the Champions Trophy.

While India have not picked Sanju Samson and Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep Singh has been added to the pace department. Kuldeep Yadav leads the spin department after his hernia surgery in December 2024 along with all-rounders Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, and Ravindra Jadeja.

India will begin their 2025 Champions Trophy campaign with a Group A match against Bangladesh on 20 February. They will then lock horns against Pakistan on 23 February, before facing New Zealand on 2 March. India will play all their matches in Dubai.
